8/4/2023 0 Comments Spiky platypus pokemon![]() ![]() and/or too exotic to be easily recognizable at worst. i'd argue most of the above pokemon are vague representations at BEST. and how many kids would know what they were based on. Maybe the franchise just isn't for me, anymore.Īnd how many of those did you actually know they were based on. They've become nothing more than stickers in a scrapbook. As I said, I often know nothing about them, not even their names. On the other hand, though, I feel like there are just too many Pokémon now to care about specific ones. Partly that's of course nostalgia, because I remember how it was having them in my team back then and by extension, playing Pokémon for the first time. When I play with my favourite old Pokémon, like Bulbasaur or Vulpix, there is some kind of special bond between us. That's of course not the fault of the games or Gamefreak, but it's just making it harder for me to form a connection with them. Maybe because I'm too old, or maybe because I'm not that involved anymore, probably a little of both. I read their Pokédex entries, I try to remember their names and specifics, but I often just can't. In addition to all things already mentioned, I also often don't know anything about the Pokémon that came after Gen 2. There are too many Legendaries of older generations, which you can either get for a limited time only via events or under specific postgame circumstances, that are hard to fulfil.Furthermore, since they abolished the DexNav, I have to use a guide anyway to not miss any Pokémon. So basically I have to look that up in a guide for every Pokémon separately. There are no in-game information under which circumstances Pokémon will evolve. It wouldn't be too bad, if the collecting aspect was still intact (which technically it is, of course), but there are a few reasons why I feel it's nearly impossible for me to complete the Pokédex, which ultimately makes it a really frustrating experience: Pokémon doesn't really give me the first two things anymore and maybe that's at least partially because my perspective as a grown up man with a lot more gaming experience has changed. The feeling of going on an adventure in an seemingly open world, a somewhat challenging single player experience and ESPECIALLY the urge 'to catch 'em all'. What I still DO care about is the reason I've fallen in love with the franchise as a kid in the first place: I don't care about the larger focus on terribly written cliche story lines and cinematics that are interrupting the gameplay/ adventure. I don't care about the direction the series has taken since the first games and all the convoluted gimmicks they introduce which each generation. I don't care about the online multiplayer, because I can't compete. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Moon are the first ones in a pretty long time, of which I even finished the main story and I realised some things: I skipped generation 3 as well as 6 (main games) and only briefly played Diamond and Black. I personally don't have a problem with any generations designs in the big picture, but as someone who is playing Pokémon only casually, there are just too many of them. ![]()
